Sony has officially announced the more powerful PlayStation 4 Pro (PlayStation Neo is the PlayStation 4 Pro). The PS4 Pro which was announced together with the PlayStation 4 slim has more almost double GPU power than the current PlayStation 4 model and a way faster CPU and internal Hard drive of 1TB. The new console is capable 4K output and will also offer the possibility HDR (High Dynamic Range) for games and also for other types of content such as movies and TV series.
All PlayStation 4 games will run on Playstation 4 Pro. According to Sony itself, the PlayStation 4 Pro is a console that will enable “unmatched 4k experience for users ” and they showed the difference in the graphics of some PS4 games, compared to the PS4 Pro:
“[We’re] providing a number of mechanisms for easily transferring your game library and entitlements from the standard model to the new console,” PS4 Lead Systems Architect Mark Cerny said.
During the conference it was also revealed that Netflix will have more than 600 hours of content in 4K that can be leveraged across the Island. The second season of Narcos and the first season of Luke Cage were cited as an example of content that can be watched with the new 4k resolution.
In addition, the YouTube app will also be updated to show content available in 4k.
Cerny also assured that players will not necessarily need a 4K or HDR display to run the PlayStation 4 Pro. According to him, when the Pro is connected to a device, the console can determine which is the best available resolution and it will run games at that resolution. If only connected to an HD TV, the console will play games with a resolution significantly better than current PS4, although not 4k.
