Sony has finally shared the details regarding the requirement of PlayStation Plus for Hello Games' No Man's Sky. It has been officially confirmed by Hello Games that No Man's Sky can be played offline because the universe is generated randomly within game's code and has no relationship whatsoever with server-side. Today, Sony officially confirmed that PlayStation Plus subscription is not required.
Sony offered the clarification to Game Informer's Australia Editor David Miller. Here is what David wrote on Twitter after talking with a PlayStation PR:
"Just confirmed with Sony: you don't need PS Plus to play No Man's Sky online. Some readers were confused by the language on this. Good news."
There are certain features in No Man's Sky which requires players to be connected online, for example: to use The Atlas feature, players requires an online connection. This feature allows players to upload their newly-found planets, plants, and lifeforms.
No Man's Sky is scheduled to launch on August 9, 2016.
