Ubisoft Clarifies Loot Boxes In Assassins Creed: Origins Not Purchasable With Real Money

Is Assassin's Creed Origins really going to feature Loot Boxes that will purchasable with real money? Game Director Ashraf Ismail in a recent interview with our friend at Eurogamer clarified that this is not going to be the case. There will be loot boxes in Assassin's Creed Origins and they will be purchasable only with the in-game currency called Drachma. Recently, few Assassin's Creed Origins preview footage appeared on YouTube showing loot boxes being sold by traveling merchant named REDA via his Noman's Bazaar Shop. The loot box was named as "Heka Chests" and it was available for 3K Drachma, and it's description reads: "Contains one random weapon or shield. Opens automatically on the purchase."

When Eurogamer contacted Game Director Ashraf Ismail for a clarification, here's what he said:

"He's a unique shop [vendor] in the world who sells Carbon Crystals, which are the rarest item needed for crafting. You can find this stuff in the world, but the idea is if you have the money you can just buy stuff for him. Reda also sells a mystery box which can contain any weapon, piece of gear or item in the game. It's a way for people who hoard lots of money, if you min-max the economy system, to gamble the money and get really unique stuff."

When asked about the decision behind including Loot Boxes in Assassin's Creed Origins, Ashraf replied: "The reason we did that was because we saw, even two years ago, people playing the game in different ways. There are people who like to go into a military location, infiltrate them, steal the loot and equipment and hopefully find some unique or legendary gear.

"Then there was a smaller set of people who would focus almost entirely on the economy, buying and selling stuff to gain as much money as they can. And we felt like, okay, that's a valid way to play the game - it's a part of the RPG [aspect], so we'll let them play the economy. So, it's one way to be able to purchase or get some of the unique items in the game."

There you have it, it's time for you to drop down the hate against the availability of Loot Boxes in Assassin's Creed Origins. Game Director Ashraf Ismail clarified almost everything you wanted to know about it.

Assassin's Creed Origins is scheduled to launch on October 27 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
